PROJECTS

The work made public.

Projects gathers the specific work produced through Okpara House: realized, ongoing and future initiatives in publishing, design, hospitality, research and conversation. The House provides the intellectual and cultural ground; these projects carry that ground into public form.

WHY WE COLLABORATE

To bring consequential ideas and projects into the public domain while preserving the integrity, authorship and cultural foundations from which they arise.

INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION

A global practice. A rooted cultural direction.

Okpara House has always worked internationally. Across our projects, we have collaborated with artists, designers, researchers, architects, producers, fabricators and manufacturers in Nigeria, the United States, Latvia, China, Iran, Ukraine, France, Haiti and Hong Kong.

This global method is not a departure from our cultural foundations. It allows different forms of knowledge, technology, craft and production to meet under a cultural direction rooted in Okpara House.

The work may be international in its making, but its intellectual purpose remains clear: to recover our authority over our cultural narratives and reimagine, for contemporary times, what it means to be African.

FIELDS OF PRACTICE

The form follows the work.

Each active field opens into its current projects. Developing fields will appear when substantive work is ready to enter the public record.

COLLABORATE

Bring aligned work into conversation.

We welcome thoughtful proposals from people whose practices share the intellectual, cultural and ethical foundations of Okpara House. Public-benefit collaborations may be developed through Afamefuna Inc., our nonprofit arm.
